The Oji Paper Group Environmental Charter Environmental Action Plan 21
(Target Year: Fiscal 2010, Scope: The Oji Paper Group)

1. Corporate officer and organization in charge
Target
  To establish 300,000 hectares of overseas plantations
Forecast of the Supply Capacity of Wood Chips from Overseas Plantations
  The supply capacity of wood chips from our overseas plantations is expected to achieve about 2,700,000 tons per year (dry weight basis). Some part of wood chips is made to pulp in Oji Paper overseas affiliates.

2. Promotion of Paper Recycling
Target
  To maintain the wastepaper ratio at 60% or higher.
Wastepaper ratio : volume of wastepaper used/volume of paper and paperboard produced

3. Promotion of Countermeasures for Global Warming Issues
Target for four paper-making companies (Oji Paper, Oji Paperboard, Oji Specialty Papers and Oji Nepia)
Target
 
(1) To reduce fossil fuel-based energy consumption per unit of production by 20% relative to the fiscal 1990 levels.
(2) To reduce fossil fuel carbon dioxide emissions per unit of production by 20% relative to the fiscal 1990 levels.

4. Strengthening Environmental Management Systems
Reinforcement of environmental management systems by implementation of environmental audits over the entire Oji Paper Group
Target
 
(1) The Oji Paper Group is working toward certification under environmental management systems, including ISO 14001 and the Eco-Action 21 program set up by the Ministry of the Environment, according to conditions at individual facilities.
Group companies involved in physical distribution activities aim to achieve certification under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Green Management system at all business sites by March 2007.
(2) Oji Paper Group will also work toward forest certification under schemes including the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) program at all overseas forest plantations, and the Sustainable Green Ecosystem Council (SGEC) program at company-owned forests in Japan.

5. Reduction and Effective Utilization of Waste
The ultimate goal is to reduce the volume of landfill disposals to zero through further efforts to reduce or reuse waste.
Target
  The target is a final disposal ratio of 0.5% by March 2011.
Final disposal ratio : Waste disposal at landfill sites (dry tons)/production (tons) *100%
